I cut all the candles that had grown this year. When the tree back buds I will get about 3 times as many. The timing for this project hopefully will mean that the tree won't have time to fully develop these new candles, and that the will therefor be smaller needles. In the fall I will needle pluck last years needles, the ones that I cut last year( yuo can see the brown ends). Next year I should have all new growth needles, shorter and twice as many of them( some will have been removed due to too many in a cluster, don't want spoke wheels).
