Some new trees I picked up
On the weekend I was lucky enough to be at a bonsai club sale of member trees. The sale was for members only and the trees for sale were from two main collections where the owners were over either 90 years old or gravely ill. In both cases they could not look after their trees any more. These trees are not only old but very cheaply priced. Also many of them had not been repotted in a long time.
This was a chance for members to keep these old trees within the club community by adding to their private collection and have the trees still available for club shows and so on. On a previous occasion a similar sale was conducted but I turned up five minutes after the sale commenced and missed out on picking up a bargain. I sadly watched a bonsai nursery owner walk away with some incredible trees which he would of happily sold for 5 to 10 times the price. Not wanting to miss out again I arrived an hour early and was first in line. I brought with me my wife, my brother and his girlfriend. They were going to help me "mind" the trees.
I gave my helpers instructions of which trees to go for as the doors open, and it turned out to be a well executed plan. I picked up quite a few nice trees and happily witnessed the nursery owner that bought all the good trees last time walk out with only a couple this time.
Anyway, I look forward to keeping updates on these trees.
Here they are.
In order (I hope):
Ash, very old kurama(sp) azalea, ceder, corky bark chinese elm, corky bark chinese elm clump, close up of the trunks of the elm clump.
