I have this problem right now on one of my burtt davyiis. I thought it might be thrips, but I have not seen any on the leaves. I will have Jim take a look at it and see what he says.

I believe a straight angle chop would be best. I can not tell exactly what angle from the picture, but I would say that the best angle to chop it would be at the angle that gives the most pleasant and natural looking taper to the top of the tree. After the chop, you could use knob cutters to carve it down and give it a more rounded appearance.
