My experience is that they don't work very well. *The problem is that our soil mixes are way too course and don't give a good reading. *You can monitor soil moisture by inserting a chop stick into the soil. *When it is on the damp to dryish side (but not totally dry) its time to water. *Fertilizer needs are monitored by checking plant growth and color. *Good luck.
