How to treat some wood rot?

Hi guys. Quick question. I have a very old Ponderosa pine that is starting to get some wood rot in the crotch of a branch and the trunk. I scraped off the soft stuff and am wondering if I can paint the area with lime sulphur to stop further rot? Seems I read this somewhere but can't remember where. If yes, do I dilute the lime sulphur or use it strait from the bottle? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Sandi
