I shall take the easy way out (though not because it was easy!), and agree with Mr. Pall. The pot itself isn't perhaps the best choice for this tree in any scenario, but the geometry of the composition is much more arresting, "dramatic" in Mr. Pall's words, in the second presentation. I also agree with the notion of introducing some movement into that very long, seemingly static branch.
