Weeds! But are they?

SPring has broken, my trees are starting to leaf out and about a million weeds have taken homes in my pots. The other day i was bored in colleg and went to have a look in the library, finding a nice book on british wildflowers. To my amazement it turns out that half of these weeds turn out to be beautiful small flowering plants, if only given the chance to grow a little.

One example, in the past few years i have been having major problems with a small burgundy leaved plant that got everywhere. All i have done is tear them all out and left them to die in the sun. These weeds turned out to be viola hirta, hairy violet and have beautiful little blue flowers when mature.

Now i'm just hoping i haven't killed them all as i rekon they would make nice accent plants. So this is my project for this year: concentrate on accent plants, particularly natives which pop up in my back garden!

I have already strted a few plantings, just waiting for them to settle and i'll post a few pictures. Does anybody else use 'weeds' for accent planting?

cheers
Al
