I'm a student myself, and at the moment i have a brilliant buget bench. It consists of four house bricks (the same kind as the house is made of- grey and textured) stacked two at each end. Then i have a hefty 6' long, 6" wide and 1" thich chunk of wood that sits on top. I can fit most of my shohin on here, side by side. The special thing about my bench is that as the bricks are the same as the way it is in front of, the bench looks like it is floating! It's a nich effect and cost me nothing to build, so i'm happy.
