If you post pictures you might get a bit of advice here, but you should consider joining a club in your area. Telling you how to prune would be a little like describing how to remove your own appendix, only worse because we don't even know if you need that appendix removed.

Pruning for those types of plants you've mentioned would likely be very different. The pine will be the most difficult - because the timing and technique are very important - and the jade will be the most forgiving. Take it slow and concentrate on learning to water properly and meet the plants' horticultural needs first.
