A picture would speak 1000 words here. *Your tree will fill in over time, and I am guessing, that what it probably needs to do is grow.

You are talking about a silhouette, and generally you just need some growing and pinching back to get a nice full silhouette. *The wiring and pruning come in to create a pleasing scaffolding to support that canopy of leaves.

pinching or Nipping back the growing tips causes them to branch, and increases the density of the crown.

Beware the large leaves. It may be an indication that your tree isn't getting enough light.
