Juliet, this is Steve-from-the-frozen-north.

Just wanted to say that I'm happy to find out that I'm not the only one crazy enough (or genius??) to try this technique, too - I saw Dugzbonsai site last spring and decided to have a go myself. I cursed and swore during the process and came up with my own "ugly" trident maple/frankenstein creation. I used a landscape screen mesh thingey as a skeleton for my project, but it was more of just a pyramid without any "movement". After one year's growth, it ain't looking too pretty.

I'll try to post a picture when I get home (surfing at work right now). I'm just hoping the poor thing survived my over-wintering.
