Ok, DO NOT water on a schedule, this is a fairly sure way to kill a tree. Is the soil drying up or is the foliage going crispy? if the soil is drying out too quickly then you will need to water more often, but if the foliage is crisping up then there is a risk that the tree might be dying. Unfortunately because it is a conifer it is difficult to tell right away when it is not feeling so good.
Keep the watering to when the soil begins to dry out which might be once a day or it might be once a week, make sure it is getting plenty of sun (not midday sun, say morning and afternoon or something like that), mist the foliage as often as possible, and perhaps water with a WEAK fertiliser solution.

Hope some of that helps.

Also, to aid further help, please find out if the soil is very wet all the time, say if its the foliage crisping up and try and give a little bit of history about the plant, e.g. where it was kept in the garden/bonsai centre, whether it came from a garden or bonsai centre etc.

Good Luck
Rowan

[Edit] Also, are those pebbles glued on, if they are, remove them. You might need to repot but i'll let someone with more experience comment on that.
