Have you ever called yourself a bonsai artist? - Yep, all the time! It's gotten me some weird looks and some insane laughter, but that's no different to what I get off females all the time, so I can deal with that.

Name a bonsai collector near you. - Ian Stewardson.

Seems we're missing a point here though. In modern artistic competions (books, film, sculpture, etc), the artist AND the art is judged, because it equates to the same thing. The 'best' piece of art wins, but it is 'owned' and created by the artist, not some collector. That is not to detract from the artistic value of older works that have been procured by others, but truly, if you call yourself an artist, do you not want other's opinions of your work to be just that, rather than of someone else's?

When you judge art, you judge the artist. By definition.
