Thanks for the thought provoking rant. I have always encouraged people interested in bonsai to buy a "worked" tree or two, but always with the thought that this would be part of the learning process in becoming a "real bonsai artist", styling trees from stock. If someone only wanted to water, feed and admire their "purchased" trees, that was cool, but not very serious, even if their trees were far superior to mine.
I guess the bottom line is that if more people are into bonsai at any level of skill or appreciation, the better it is for everyone. If the big dollar crowd gets hired guns to style and care for their bonsai, it supports the artists and the art.
