Strange thing here in the boreal forests of Michigan, the does seem to have a grayish coloring and the bucks more of a brown, but not always. I like to walk in an area called "Dead Mans Swamp" (so called because many have gone in, a few less have come out) and the deer there are almost black in color, very unsual for whitetail deer.

As a side note, most deer are expert pruners and do a good job keeping foliage low and compact, lol.
