As mentioned in chat while on this subject..

If you use a screened training pot or pond basket you may want to consider elevating the pot above your bench so air can circulate underneath as well.

I took a 1x6 piece of plastic lumber and cut 1" pieces off, leaving me with many 1"x1"x6" pieces that act as legs under my training pots. This is the same plastic wood I used for the top of my monkey poles, virtually indestructable.

This also serves to protect my benches from mildew and mold as well as allow for air circulation and a more even drying out of the soil.
