Hi Bren,
Does your fig have any branches yet, or is it mainly a single trunk with leaves coming right off the trunk?
Jerry Meislik has a well-illustrated
article on fig defoliation that might be of great help to you.
Do be sure that the plant is actively growing at the time of defoliation. *Never defoliate any tree that is not at the peak of health.
