badly scarred chinese elm

just a quick quiery on how well chinese elms will recover from wire scars....
I have just removed some wire from a chinese elm that i refer to as the "mother tree" as it is the one that i take all my cuttings from and have decided that it will be a 20 year project. Anywho, the wire has been left on a bit to long ( dont worry i have already given myself a slap on the wrist ) and there is quite a bit of scarring on the trunk, I wil be alowing this tree to grow and thicken over a long period but, as i have not scarred a chinese elm before, was wondering if the scars will heal or if this will be a problem?
