I am from Arkansas, too, and these things grow like weeds everywhere. I have one in my back yard that was cut to a small stump that barely sticks out of the ground. It has started growing several new trunks and mowing them only produces more growth. The tree was cut before I moved in, but I kept it mowed until recently. Now I am waiting for the growth to get large enough to layer one of the trunks. I always assumed that they were elms, as well. If they are not, and someone can positively ID them, it would be great. As for the seeds, they do not seed in "hops" or "beans." The few that I have seen seed have single, small seeds that are kinda circular.
