I am willing to bet your new bonsai is a Ficus. Better yet, a "ginseng" ficus. Ficus leaves will turn yellow and drop leaves when their environments are changed. I would not overwater or give it to much TLC, just give it some time and it should come around with some new foliage. If indeed this is a ficus. If not....and it is dead....then Home Depot will exchange or return your money. Do a search on ficus and compare the pictures to truly ID yours...if you could post one here and others will ID it for you. Good luck.
