Re: White "mold" or fungus?? on soil and base of t

I just fertilized most of my trees using a 1/2 strength 4-4-4 fertilizer. I had also given them a weak shot of Superthrive about 2 weeks before that (2 drops in a gallon of water).

Now I am getting white fuzzy stuff on the surface of the soil and some at the base of the trees. I also have a rock planted Shefflera that has some of the stuff even on the rock. I need to know if this is harmful and if so, what can I do to get rid of it? I have read elsewhere that if you fertilize and there is too much nitrogen and the soil is damp, no air moving or evaporation, that you can get some fungus growing in the soil.

What can I do to deal with this??

Jess

You've pretty much answered your own question. More light more air circulation and making sure the soil doesn't stay wet will help keep the mold and fungus away. There are also fungicides available that you can spray on the soil surface.
