On the maple, cut back BELOW the affected part to green healthy wood. Don't cut back to it, or you are just following behind the damage. If you see discolored wood deep within the core of the tree, remove that too.
Dip your pruners in a solution of bleach and water between cuts to avoid transferring the disease to healthy wood.
