Late Season Addition

I bought what was labelled an acer ginnala (amur maple) from the bargin bin. I wanted a deciduous tree to work on given my inexperience with such trees.
I slip potted it into another slightly larger pot as the tree was root bound and it was getting towards fall.
I know that i need to let this grow and thicken and i'll put in a grow box next spring but could i cut the right or the left upright leader to lose the slingshot effect this fall??
I think that the left one needs to go but any opinions would be appreciated.
thanx in advance
