Ginkgos are also widely used for urban landscaping due to their resistance to pollutants. I too am a smoker (hopefully not for long though), but I adamently believe that the addiction is also deleterious to my plants. If nothing else, the particulate matter that eventually lands on the plants affects their ability to photosynthize. This may have a very small, seemingly inconsequential effect, but over the years.... Of course this can be alleviated by dusting or cleaning off the leaves more frequently. Other than that I do use tobacco (in its unsmoked form) as an organic insecticide, which I have had some success with.
