Lime Sulfur At Trunk Base?

Hello all, this is my first post even though i've been on the site a number of times. Since I found this site a couple of months ago I basically just read and learned. I have been into bonsai for 8 months after receiving a juniper from my girlfried for x-mas and I haven't been able to shake the bug since!

My question is: I have purchased a really nice Green Gem Boxwood which has an excellent root flare with a solid trunk base. However, the nutrients in the soil have bled up the trunk. I was wondering if I could apply a bit of Lime Sulfur to the affected areas at the base. Additionally, would this affect the growth of the roots by doing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob
