If you picked the seeds off the tree then thay probably are not mature. Ive done this and had 0% germination rate, which isnt very good!
You definitely should wait till they start falling naturally.
Im sorry, I thought you wanted to plant the seeds and grow them in your basement through the winter. But Lewis is right, plant them in pots a keep them moist outside for there stratisfication. Then they will sprout in the spring. They wont sprout during stratisfying so you wont have to worry about lighting.
