I've never heard of anyone doing an air layer on one of these, and that's not to say that it's not possibble. I think the reason is because you need to strive for the taper and flare which will only be at the base of the trunk. I remember after I did the initial chop on mine, one of my family members calling it the "broomstick" because it was so straight right after the flare at the base. The amount of flare or taper is actually what's going to make your tree a really good specimen or just a mediocre one.
