Ron, I've contacted the HazMat authorities and they will have an asbestos abatement team out there in the woods shortly. The plan is to strip all the bark and replace it with fire-retardant OSHA-approved polyurethane foam. From a distance you can hardly tell it isn't bark.
This should keep the trunks insulated and in good shape until they all get chopped down under some Government land swap program.
