Hey Gary,
beautiful tree. I say definately "NO" on removing the lower right branch. In the circle "area 1" it looks as if you have 2 branches forming the crown. Maybe you could remove one (left one?) and fill out the pad that is the crown with the remaining one branch. The new crown will look small at first. You can lessen the effect by tightening up the foliage pads as they look slightly over grown. In this picture the trunk gives the appearance of reverse taper. (?) can you post some side pics? where did you aquire this juniper?
