I use expanded shale or "haydite" in my soil mixes...I love the stuff.
Yes ya have to sift the fines out of it, but you will be pleased if you use this.
I get my haydite from the local cement plant. They send me back to a large pile of it, tell me to load all I want for 10 bucks.....I bring about 5 five gallon buckets.
