jaron,
The 'live oak' style has become for me a major goal in my bonsai collection...This is my third time around with bonsai, and this time I find myself concentrating more on trees that look like the ones I see often...The Southern Live Oak [Quercus virginiana] is one...
I am currently working on 'Yaupon Holly' and 'Japanese Boxwood' with the 'live oak style'...These trees stray far from many of the accepted guidelines of bonsai [branch size, taper, and curvature; overall outline shape; callused wounds], yet the artistic guidelines should still be present in my opinion
I do not know of a collection of 'live oak style' bonsai photos, but I am also interested in seeing some...
I think you may find this article of interest
Lake Charles Bonsai Society Newsletter
and
Part 2
I hope to some day see a book written and devoted to some of the Southern US styles...Flat-top Bald Cypress and Live Oak for example...Perhaps you will be the one to author such a book...I keep watching for something from Joe Day on the subject, but have not heard of anything...
Regards
Behr
