Now I have to start thinking how to finish the inside. I wanted a tatami mat, but this thing is too small. The local bonsai shop sell some matts that are the right sive, but cost is prohibative, and it would cut the depth from 20" to 12", which I feel would be to shallow.
I decided to use a matt I bought at the dollar store. This is one of those beach matts that come all rolled up and have the ribbing on the edge for ties.
Tools needed for the project are pictured. A straight edge is a must as well as a good sharp knife. I started by first rolling a coat of diluted glue on the back of the whole matt to secure the strings. Cutting perpedicular to the matt is OK, but cutting between the reeds is sure death, as the whole thing falls apart. Humm...wonder how I know this....
