Just one thought on the hours spent defoliating your trees, why?
Seriously, one option is to just put the tree out into its sunny position in the summer. The leaves will all burn, the tree will look terrible and then in about ten days they will all fall off!
I did this with a large F. microcarpa each spring-summer in Michigan. Of course this should only be done with a healthy tree no matter how one wishes to defoliate.
