Went down to a local nursery today 'cause I heard they were having a closing down sale - and I thought I could pick up some nice nursery stock to play around with at a low price.
I browsed around and found the "bonsai" section, and had a chuckle at their selection - not more than ficus seedlings with oversized leaves in bonsai pots. However when a staff member informed me that the trees were selling at 25% of their marked price, I couldn't resist but buy my first mallsai - a little twin trunk serissa hiding in the back!
I am worried about the tree though because;
1. The tree was positioned outdoors, and it's been pretty chilly/windy over here for a couple of weeks.
2. The tree has been losing a lot of leaves, evidenced by a thick layer of fallen foliage around the pot
3. The plant has been clearly over-watered.
So ... how can I keep this little guy alive? Is it too far gone? Any special tips anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated as this is my first serissa. I guess I wouldn't be too disappointed if it died on me as the price I paid is cheaper than I would have paid if I bought the pot on its own (plus I got a little mudman too!)
Here is what the tree looks like right now after a light trim and after I topped up it's soil.
