Thanks for posting up your picture. With regards to the broom style, I am not sure if there's anything else you can really re-style it to at the moment. I would stick to something like the formal upright or something like a variation on the broom style, however, if you utilize that lower left hand branch, you run the risk of too many branches coming from the same side of the trunk. The higher one is a lot thicker and mature.
I included a semi-virtual for you. I think that you should stick with the broom style. THe tree needs to be opened a bit. Too many leaves still at the base of the branches. Aside from that, the trunk is nice, and so you can still make a very good situation out of this tree.
The red lines are where I'd bend the "outter" brances, and then bend all the internal branches to compliment those outter lying ones. The blue line is a suggested positioning for that smaller lower branch, if you choose to keep it.
