I can't imagine what is so sticky to hold them on the leaves like that. Have you tried picking them off, scraping them off? Something is telling me here that this elm is not exposed to outside conditions. A little wind and rain and I think they would be gone. Are you keeping the maple inside? That will cause bigger problems down the road.
