i've got a pretty good growing area, so that shouldn't be a problem, and honestly i think acers really only have trouble as landscape plants here in vegas. a couple years ago when i first got into bonsai i had a regular acer purchased in a 5 gallon container from a nursery that pushed out unbelievable growth in the full sun without ever burning [unfortunately roomates forgot to water it while i was gone and it dried up]
