ID: Pretty definitely an Elm. Ulmus sp. I'm not sure as to the spcies. If you hold a gun to my head, I'm going to say a Slippery Elm. Ulmus rubra. Though I'd rather not testfy to that in court.
Interesting choice for Bonsai. I've been told that American Elm works for Bonsai and I'd conclude from that that Slippery Elm, being very similar to U. americana, should also.
If it really is a Slippery Elm.
