H2O

I think the topic of soils has been covered very thoroughly - with some interesting comments and contributions. I especially like your photos of the Schultz soil conditioner and the links to Basalite sand, Matt! Thank you - it helps to know what you are looking for.

Anyway - I am wondering about water - in our area - the water is very hard, full of minerals and very alkaline - PH 8 plus. Yellowing leaves and mineral deposits are often a problem. I know that some others are using an injection system in their watering system to add acid to neutralize the water. Others add vinegar in a ratio required to normalize the PH or fertilize with some version of Muracid.

I am wondering what others are doing about it. I have been considering investing in an RO system from Charley's - one of our sponsors - as a matter of fact. Right now I am robbing our household system for my orchids and- just recently, for my bonsai - -- sometimes there is no water for coffee as a result!! The reverse osmosis treated water tests at about 5 to 6 PH and my orchids are loving it.

How about it - bonsaiTALK members??
