I think there is an IRC or MIRC chat associated with the rec.arts.bonsai group
StarChat #bonsai IRC channel at 01:00 UTC time (on Tuesday).
We have our own chatroom here on the forum that allows photo exchange and so forth without the need to download any chat client software. Anyway here is the info on the "other" chat if you want to use IRC or see what they are doing:

Every Monday and Thursday night there is a chat room open on the "#bonsai" channel at 8:00 PM eastern time or 0100 coordinated universal time (on Tuesday). You should be able to get there from one the six "StarChat" servers that are listed. There are usually about a dozen participants each night and it is most informative. If you haven't been here, I strongly urge you to check it out; I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
