A Second Saga Of The Boxwood
On October 28 2002 I separated an Air layer of a Boxwood, and placed it in an 8 inch plastic Bulb pot.
On March 23, 2003, I checked the roots and there was a small amount of roots. I decided to plant this Boxwood in a plastic Colander (similar to the idea of the Vance Wood Planter). The loose Bonsai soil seems to give the roots plenty of oxygen, which seems to be the key to wonderful root growth. Judge for yourself in this series.
The first picture is the green plastic colander. Notice that no roots have ventured out of the holes. I believe that is due to the fact that roots will avoid light. They will turn away and head for darkness.
