I LOVE the venus flytrap answer! Seriously, though, if they look like fruitflies, they are fungus gnats. Keeping the soil on the dry side is definitely one step. There is also a BT that is used as a soil drench to kill the larva. Ask your garden center. For those pesky, flying adults, I personally use yellow sticky traps. You can find them sold for whitefly/aphids but they work on the gnats, too. You can spray the adults with Insecticidal Soap or even pyrethrums/pyrethrims but I would not do that inside. Personal choice.
