Japanese Honeysuckle
I've always been fascinated with the use of vines for bonsai and I'm working with several Japanese Honeysuckles (L. japonica), Wild Grapes and Virginia Creepers, all of which are making good progress towards Bonsaihood. I've been especially intrigued with J. Honeysuckle since it is so common and so resilient. In John Naka's "Bonsai Techniques II", he shows a technique of twisting several vines around a common center to form a thick and interesting trunk. I tried this with this specimen and I'm very impressed by reult that appears to be in the making. I only started this last year with a single largish plant that had several vines growing out of a common point. I intend to use this technigue with 2 or 3 other plants that I started from seed. I have another one that is developing into a very pretty clump style specimen.
