Flowering Quince

Here are 3 of my Flowering Quinces. Two were repotted last Fall and one will be as soon as I can get to it. I paid $2.00 at Walmart for all three. Two resulted from division of one of them when I put it into my grow bed last Spring. Neither of them looked like much when I got them Fall, 18 months ago. All three were covered with blossoms this Spring.

I know that these plants don't look like much when compared to mature bonsai in proper pots. But what I am delighted by is the progress they are making. I imagine the emphasis will be on clip-and grow for 2 or 3 more years Plus, it is a wonderful experience just to be close to them and their beauty. For me, just about any tree in a pot is fascinating and a large fraction of the enjoyment of even top notch trees is available from much humbler material. For me, the artistic aspects of Bonsai is pretty interesting, but is the TREES that are the real, central interest of this fascinating activity. With this in mind, I don't mind introducing my friends from my back porch even if they aren't as far along as many others you will see here.
