By and large I agree with you, but there are many enthusiasts out there without local bonsai vendors who find it very valuable. Sometimes there are even things that are attractive to discriminating buyers as well.

It's also a great way to liquidate no longer wanted items, such as the 27" oval mica pot that came with a collected tree in it.
