Fert. cakes bring about all sorts of creepy crawlers. I have started to use pelleted fert. I find it breaks down faster. Soaking your tree for 20 min. will do no harm as long as you have free draining soil. I do this to my trees once a month to purge salts out of the soil from top watering. I also put dyna gro in the water and fert. this way while I'm soaking them.
