my "Official" USDA Zone Designation
I know this is basic stuff, but I could use a couple hardiness zone tips.
I assume this refers to the minimum temps you receive? Is that all it is? Is it averages? Basic descrip appreciated.
I live in South Orange County-Ca, San Juan Capistrano. Based on charts like the one below, I'd say I'm in zone 10a, w/ minimum annual temps dipping to [approx] 35-30 deg. F. Is there a web site or way to get the "official" designation for my zone. I get the jest from these charts, but I'm sure there is some proper designation based on exact locale. Just another rookie Q (actually, I had to make a thread so I'd stop starin' at all those pics on Al's SoCAl tour folder).

btw-
3 years ago I moved here after 20 years in San Clemente (5 miles down the road but on the beach), both places would probably map out as the same zone but the [micro] climates are way different, 5 miles from the beach I get 10-15 degrees hotter/colder.
thanx
