Maple Ground Layer- Tiny Tree Response

I recieved a PM from tiny tree about the Maple ground layer that I started in July of 2002. The article about that can be seen at;PROJECT- Trident Maple III

Later around Feb. 15 2003 I took the layer to a Fresno club meeting to expose the layer and see what I had. That article can be seen at :Unwrapping a present

Now this tree, which was a pretty bad tree by bonsai standards, was the subject of a practise session for growing roots. The tree eventhough it has a wonderful root base now, and the fact the the branches are growing with abandon is beside the point. The tree is still ugly. The future lies in the great lower trunk and great root base that it has now. I plan on chopping the tree back to make a shohin tree out of, while removing the top with an air layer. These will be done in the future and I am concentrating on building the engine now.

The tree was to be repotted today, it has been in the grow pot for a year almost to the day. This is the way the tree looked before the repot.
