How big a tree are you developing here, and how long are you willing to wait to get there?

If this were a shohin, for example I would probably cut it back just above the first branch cluster within the next 2 years. In the meantime I would wire that cluster to produce a replacement apex and first branch.

P.S. I used red backgrounds once for a photo session in the museum. I don't think I will be using them again!
