The root base is mediocre. The general appearance of this nebari is something like a crouching frog. A bit lumpy and sprawling with roots that twist about and rise out of the soil before they fall back in.
It's interesting in a way, but mostly it's a bit grotesque. You could say it contrasts with the flowering in smooth bark, but it is not a refined rootbase.
When you see somthing like this, it's usually an indication that no one took the time and effort to organize the root system when the tree was developed. It was allowed to develop in a container, and the roots twisted about and grew, and this was the result.
